Bill Gates is back, and this time, he’s setting his sights on something that could give the world’s most powerful people an unprecedented level of influence over our lives: artificial intelligence. And folks, we’re not talking about just another billionaire throwing money at the next big technology. We’re talking about a man with billions of dollars, powerful connections to world leaders, and a growing interest in determining how AI should be regulated—all under the familiar promise of keeping us safe.
But here’s my question: Safe from what? And who gets to decide? Because when you start regulating something, you’re also deciding what people can and cannot do with it. And when that technology is becoming embedded in our healthcare, education, businesses, financial systems, and the information we receive, those decisions carry enormous power.
Now Gates is warning that some serious surprises could be coming within the next year. But while everyone’s focused on his warnings, I think we need to be asking a much bigger question: Is this really about protecting humanity, or are we watching the beginning of a battle to takeover the future of artificial intelligence?
What I’ve uncovered about where Gates is directing his attention raises some questions that every American should be asking.
